pass alarms

when i got out of our ambulance at the world trade center site early september 12th around 3am i threw up. all you could smell was jet fuel and burning flesh. as a firefighter/emt all i heard was those pass alarms of the hundreds of firefighters trapped. a pass alarm is an alarm a firefighter wears that beeps when they remain motionless for a certain amount of time. that moment, that day, was the worst day of my life.
