i live in salem oregon so when the attack on the world trade center took place it was before 6:00 am here and i was asleep. my mother come to my room and told me to come into the livingroom because i would not beleive what was happening.
when i was finally awake enough to understand what had happened i felt sick to my stomach, and infuriated beyond belief.
i come from a military family and as such i have always been more patriotic than the average person, and the thought that someone had the audacity to viciously attack the nation i love invoked an amount of anger i have never felt before.
but as the day went on and i seen the people around the country coming together i realized one thing. as terible as the attack on 9/11/01 was, it did do one good thing, it brought this country closer together than it has been in a very long time.
the most powerful image i can recall about 9/11/01 was when they draped a huge us flag down the face of the pentagon, the first thought that came to my mind when i seen this was the line from the national anthem "and our flag was still there."
