a vacation not to be forgotten

my family and i had just started our vacation in nags head, nc. i woke tuesday morning to see the first tower on fire. then a few minutes later, the second plane hit. meanwhile, the pentagon and been hit. then more horrifying news. a plane, supposedly headed for the capitol or the white house, had gone down in my home state. we tried to have a good day, but any station we turned to had news on it. i remember not crying, now i realize it's taken a year for my emotions to rise. i think the reason i didn't cry then is because i was too in shock to cry. our country is so peaceful, how could this happen to the us? why would someone want to kill themselves and countless others? i got my strength mostly from president bush, who kept telling us that justice will be served, and that the usa courage will not be crumbled. i just saw the way he handled himself among the young children he was surrounded by. he didn't get up and leave, he stayed for the remainder of his visit. many gave their lives unwillingly and willingly that day (firefighters, policemen). we will never forget 9/11 and hope that the generations can try to understand that day, just like my generation trys to understand the events that took place before we were born.
