the new day of infamy 9/11/01

on my radio going to manhattan that horrible day, i heard that the wtc was hit by a plane. all trains going near the wtc were shut down, including the one i took to work, but i switched trains to where i could still get into manhattan. i was close enough to the wtc where i could walk and get a closer view. i got to the corner of pine street and broadway which was about 4 blocks away. i looked up and my mouth dropped. i saw a huge hole in the south tower with flames and dark black smoke billowing out of it. i immediately tried to call my family and my girlfriend to tell them what was going on, but could not get through. after repeated attempts i gave up .then it happened....a very loud clap of thunder rang out. it sounded like the thunder you'd hear from a very violent thunderstorm. i then saw one by one the top floors of tower 2 start to fall down on top of each other. like a neatly orchestrated demolition implosion. people starting runing in all directions away from the collapsing tower. running away i heard a hissing sound start to come up behind me at a very fast pace...they said later it was estimated at 50 mph. a cloud of black dust ran up behind choking me.the dust turned the area black and next to impossible to see, gaging and coughing violently to the point where i almost collapsed. i staggered to a nearby building basement where people were gathered trying to make sense of what the hell just happened. it was a surreal feeling in the faces of the people i looked at; people covered in ash, some bloody all frightened at what just happened. after what seemed like hours underground but was actually less than an hour the second thunderclap was heard...tower 1 had just collapsed. the twin towers were no more and nyc was changed forever......
