my parents always told stories of where they were when president kennedy was shot and i always heard stories of wwii but i never thought i would be in the position to be able to tell a story that horrible to my future children. now i have one. i'm 18 years old and i was in class the time of the attack on the wtc. it was my chemistry class, 1st period of the day. it wasn't even far into the period. we were about to start an experiment when my teacher got a phone call. she yelled at us to turn the tv to a certain channel. her husband was on the phone and told her that a plane just flew into the wtc. when we first started watching it i thought "this is some drunk kid who was flying a plane and, somehow or another, couldn't miss the huge building in front of him." we then saw the second plane crash into the other building and i realized that this wasn't a joke. i couldn't believe that something like this could happen. just seeing the planes hit was horrible enough, but to see it explode in flames is overwhelming. we stayed glued to the tv no matter how much our teacher tried to get us to pay attention. we'd keep calling her over every 2 seconds. i went around after that class telling everyone what happened. there were alot of people who didn't hear about it and were majorly shocked. now we see so many pictures of the buildings during the attack. i think the worst is seeing those innocent people, who thought they were going in for a normal day of work, jumping from the buildings. so many pictures from this day will stay in my mind forever. for many weeks after, my friends and i worried about our families going into war. my brother-in-law just got out of the air force and was re-enlisted and i feared that my mother would be too. my friends and i went to a seperate room in our choir room and sat in a circle and talked about what happened...and how we felt about it. alot of tears were shed and we walked out of the room with red eyes and wet tissue. i don't think anyone will ever forget this day. my friend sang the song "where were you?" by alan jackson in our talent show and it brought us all to tears. the only good thing that came out of this was the american pride and unity. the song says everything that all of us were feeling. i definitely won't forget my senior year of high school now.
