hi everyone. i am a student at seton hall prep. i am 16 and want to share my story of september 11, 2001. that morning was the second day of school and didn’t think that anything real big was going to occur. boy was i wrong. that morning i was in the cafeteria having breakfast with some of my friends when i hear a teacher say that a plane had run into one of the world trade center buildings. i thought “wow, what a horrible accident.” from my school you can see new york city from the third floor so i went up to take a close look. on the horizon i saw smoke billowing from the tower like i have never seen before. i though that it was a freak accident, that a pilot had suffered a heart attack or something and crashed. my mind was changed in ten minutes. as i stood watching the scene someone else yelled aloud “holy shit! here comes another plane” i thought big deal another plane. planes fly over the city all the time. but as i watched it i was it descend and with a ball of flame and more smoke it hit the second tower. it was the most horrible thing i have ever seen. all the fire and smoke i was in shock. i knew then that this was no accident. this was an act of terror and a lot of people were dying because of it.
all the rest of the day i couldn’t help thinking about the people there and as i sat in front of the t.v. i wanted to go over there and do something. show that i was a proud american and was willing to help when needed. but i couldn’t think of a way to get there and what to do. the next week i found my answer. my school collected shirts, pants, bottles of water and other necessities. in this i was able to give all i could at the time and help our hero’s as much as i could. i felt good but not satisfied. w couple of week later i went to the city to look upon the disaster but also to help. i gave a few firemen and policemen hugs and thanked them for keeping our country safe. this made me feel good all over.
i have learned a lot from these terrorists and its hard to believe that i thank them for it. not for knocking down our buildings or killing innocent people for “an act of god” but showing me that i live in the best country were people will join together and fight for a cause. i thank then for showing me that our country is unified and that we are protected by the best damn military to fight over seas and with the best firefighters and policemen to guard our homes. i have learned a lot form this experience and most of it amazingly has been positive.

your fellow american,
mark

to all the men and women who have helped out with this crisis and who have fought for our freedom: i love you all from the bottom of my heart. i can not thank you enought for what you have done. i hope to joing the military myself to do what you are doing and to fight for my country and i have thought about this more seriously than before because of you. i will never forget what you have done. thanks so very much.
