it was the end of period c class at holy cross high school in flushing, queens and the first day of my senior year. i was 17 at the time when the announcement came over the loudspeaker. being that i had a study hall i went to the deans office where at tv was on. thats when i learned that it was in fact two planes that hit, and i watched as the second tower fell. i called the ambulance corp that i volunteered at and asked what i could do. being that i was only 17 i wouldnt be allowed to go to ground zero. i went to the station anyway, leaving school early. i got there and was aksed to man the radio and keep in contact with our ambulances in the city. i stayed overnight, constantly on the phones or radio. the bad news did not end though. the following morning i received word that my aunt, p.o. moira smith was one of the 23 officers from the nypd missing. feeling helpless i stayed at the station and jumped on the first ambulance back to the city...but at that point no more volleys were going to be allowed back. i went back to my house 30 hours after i got to the station. moira was found recently on march 15th.
