on 9/11/2001, i was walking out of my gym class in
utter disgust. i had heard a plane struck the world
trade center in new york city a mere 15-20 minutes
earlier. at first, i thought it was a hoax, nothing
but a stupid rumor. never, did i think a rumor would
be that loud voiced in school...everyone running down
the hallways "both wtc towers are flattened! gone!
completely gone!"...if it was a rumor, it was not a
funny one at all. i wasn't convinced until i heard
that my friends watched the towers actually collapse,
and not just that, they saw the second passenger
air-liner crash into the 2nd world trade center tower,
live, on u.s. tv. i still can't believe that someone
would go as far to crash a jumbo jet into one of the
structures that we are so proud of, and amazed by
here. i, myself, as most of you know, am in love with
new york city. it's one of those city's you can't help
but love, and i remember on the 7th grade new york
city field trip with my school, sitting a top the
observatory at the 110th level of the same tower that
was the first to crash down. what's more than that i
remember racing up and down the escalators with my
friends to the top of the roof. to fully explain what
you saw from the top there, is way beyond words. it
was an unbelievable view of the whole city, and it
engulfed you with so many thoughts, and just sent your
mind spinning. then it crashed. for me, i am happy i
was able to go atop one of the largest, if not the
largest skyscraper in the world, however, i was
disgusted with what happened. like an entire dream
crashed to the ground, new york city, will never be
the same without the twin towers. never. to be honest,
i did feel as though i was going to cry, which many of
you may think stupid. when that building went down, to
me, it took down an extreme amount of memories for
me, as well as my family, and it nearly took the life
of one of our closest friends, fred. he was in the 2nd
building at the time of the attack.
he made it out alive, thank god. i know both him and
marco are going to be reading this so from me to you
guys, i was thinking of you, and fred, like my mom
said to me last night when she told me "he must have
had a guardian angel". we know you did, and i think
both me and my mom knew who it was. i hope to see you
guys real soon. to this day, i am still horrified about the events of september 11th, and my american pride has never been as strong as it is now. i hope that the day will come when terrorist attacks will no longer occur, when fear doesn't shake the world, when unsecurity strangles every american throat, when life may finally resume its normal pace. at the same time, however, i do know that things change and we must accept that. still, i will never ever forget that day, the time, those pictures, the people, the hysteria, and america, my home. thanks.
