i can remember 9-11-01 as if it was just yesterday. i walked into my science room and sat down. anthony, a boy who sat in front of me, turned around and told me the breaking news that the pentagon was struck by a plane. i didn't believe him, i thought it was a practical joke that anthony usually played. class started and my science teacher announced that what anthony said was true, and also that the world trade centers were struck by planes and had collapsed. i felt utter disbelief and sadness along with my science friends. i then called my mom who worked in the middle school next to my high school and told her the news. she didn't hear of it and i had to tell her what happened. she didn't believe me until i got my science teacher on my cell. the rest of my classes were full of talking about what happened and what to do. kids were called down and dismissed from school because of nervous parents. we had an announcement from the principal about the day's events and all said a prayer (in a public school) and all said the pledge of allegence. during lunch, not many people were talking and i had no appetite whatsoever. in band, we watched the television, my first encounter of many to come of seeing the world trade centers being struck by those doomed planes and the trade centers collapsing. when i first saw that image along with many of my band classmates, there was a huge gasp in the room and tears as well. i remember in my keyboarding class we listened to the radio, it was a talk show repeating the day's events over and over. when we left each class, the talk in the halls was about the tradegy. on the bus home we all sang the national anthem and god bless america. it was a day i will never forget in my entire life. ~malia, 15 years old (please email me what happened to you on 9-11-01 i'd like to hear your story as well...thanks)
