hey, my name is christy, and i attend twin valley high school, were a very small school, about 300 sum ppl. im in the 10th grade, but i do understand what went on. it was on september 11, 2001 at 6:15am and i was getting ready for school. i was ready at about 7am, i was watching the today show and was dreading pe class (i hate pe). on the today show, they were talking about mj comming back to basketball, so when i got to school, that was pretty much what everyone talked about. pe is my 1st block class, we dressed out, and went outside to the football field, to play football(we stink!). after that they announced over the pa system, for everybody to report to their lockers to get their money to pay for the dance at the end of the day. we sat around and talked for about 55min, then the bell rang to go to 2nd block. my friends and i were walking up to class, because some of us had that class together, this was about 10:00am, then one of my friends came running out of the office, saying, "they bombed the pentagon!!" my first responce was "no way!" then i heard a guy "we're going to war, we just got bombed" then i was just like, "this is'nt happening" about 1min later we got up to our class, and we asked our 2nd block teacher if she knew what was going on. she just said that she didnt know, so she rolled out the tv in the storage closet of her room. we watched as the wtc smoked, and didn't know exactly what we were watching. then the reporter breaked, then as he came back on the air, the wtc was gone. he said, "just as we went off the air, then came back on the wtc collapsed" it was quite hard to swallow. i looked at my classmates, and we were all in utter disbelief. i couldnt stand to watch that, so i did my work, and tried to answer some biology 1 questions, but biology wasnt on my mind, nor was mj making a come back to basketball, but the usa was on my mind. at about 11:45am we had lunch, my friend jessica--which wasnt in my biology class--told me what they did in spanish 2 class. she said, "we didnt even open our books, we didnt even say the first word in spanish, we just watched. i had to leave the room because i was crying soo much, jarrid had to leave too. he may be a guy, but he still couldnt watch." we talked about what happened, at first i wasnt too touchy about it, i was hurt, but not crying. then on that friday at lunch before our moment of silence, mr. shortridge, read this poem, story, i dunno what it was, but it really made me cry. my other friends were just sitting there, looking at me, while i was crying. after lunch was my spanish 1 class (3rd block) i cryed all the way up there. then before i sat down, my friend, jason, started humming "america the beautiful" that just made me worse. and ever since, i have seen so much change in ppl, and in the landscape. before september 11, 2001, we didnt even have a flag on our flagpole, now we raise it and lower it every day! so all i can say is, maybe my story isnt the best in the world, maybe it has too much information, and maybe the times aint exact, but its what i remember, and its what i hold dear...and i will never forget it, nor will i take this great nation in which god has greatly blessed us with for granted.
god bless the usa!!!
