i woke up to the radio, and the dj said, "once again, the world trade center in new york city has been bombed." as i layed in bed, i thought about it and tried to remeber what the world trade center was, as i had never been told anything about it. a few minutes later, the dj interuppted a song, and said, "a second plane has crashed into the other tower of the world trade center." i wasn't sure what was going on, so i went into my parent's room, where my dad was still sleeping, and my mom was getting ready for work. i told my mom the world trade center, and her face went blank. she turned on the tv to cnn, and woke my dad up. she said, "hurry up. wake up." just as my dad opened his eyes and looked at the screen, the first tower collapsed. he had a look of horror upon his face. he said, "oh my god. what the hell happened?" then the anchor said, "one of the twin towers has fallen. the other has been hit with a plane. the penagon has also been hit. this is a terrorist attack." later, as my mom drove me and my friend to school, she told us that everything was going to be ok, but to remember that we were still in high alert. we knew that lots of buildings in san fransico, la, and las vegas were probably targets, as well as other places in the east. there were lots of forest fires near us, and when we saw the haze of smoke cover the sky, many of us thought that something nearby had been attacked. the teachers at my school weren't allowed to talk to us about it, but we all did. i remember we were all quiet and sullen in the hall before 1st period, and this popular guy, whose thirteenth birthday was september 11, was all loud and rambunctious. one of his friends said, "dude, be quiet. didn't you hear what happened?" when his friend told him, he almost cried. there was a field trip that day at a nearby pool, and nobody wanted to swim, or even go. everybody wanted to watch the news or listen to the radio or something. we just wanted to know what was going on. after school, my friend, her brother, my sister, and i all went home and watched tv all evening. we were really shooken up. we are usually the goofiest bunch, but we could hardly talk. we were so sad, that we had to relax a little, so we cracked a few jokes about the anchors and stuff, and even though we were laughing, we were crying inside. i stayed up till past 11 that night, and when my whole family was asleep, and sat on the couch, and i could feel the tears finally welling up in my eyes, that had been waiting to come all day.
