stuck in brooklyn heights

i was walking to french class when i saw everyone rushing into the chapel. i heard someone say there was an emergency meeting and that 2 planes had hit the world trade center. i was confused and didn't know what to think. then the headmaster told us that 2 planes had hit the towers in a terrorist attack. lots of kids were crying whose parents worked in the towers. then i remembered that my mom said she was going down to the world trade center today for jury duty. in a panic, i tried calling her cell phone, but no phones in the city were working since the transmitter had been on the wtc. finally i called home and my mom picked up...she had luckily decided not to go there today. there were bits of paper from the towers flying all over the school. i went up to the penthouse of my school where others were watching, all i could see was black smoke. then suddenly one of the towers just collapsed into the ground. all i could think of was all those people i had taken the a train with that morning that had gotten off at the world trade center who were probably dead now. everything in the city was shut down, and since i live in lower manhattan (about 10 mins away from the wtc), i had to stay at a friends in brooklyn. i didnt see my mom until 2 days later, and i was so happy she was ok. my house and my entire block smelled of smoke, jet fuel, and burning plastic and metal for months.
