i could not move a muscle!

at the time of the 9/11 disaster, i was riding my bike down the boardwalk in newport beach as you would find me almost every early morning. i heard some women talking on cell phones and yelling to each other to turn on their tv sets. i wondered what was going on and i hurried home. to my utter disbelief, the united states of america was being attacked on our soil by terrorists! i witnessed, as many americans did, the twin towers fall down before my eyes. i was in a total state of shock and could leave my tv for hardly a minute all day or for the next four days until the national day of mourning on friday.

to make matters worse my wife and close friend had just landed in paris, france hours before the disaster started. i could not communicate with her for over a week as the phones were drowned with calls to the u.s. then i had to worry about her safe return home. fortunately, nothing happened and she returned home.

if that was not enough to worry about as, my youngest daughter was scheduled to go on a tour of italy the week after 9/11 and i could not talk her out of going. again, we dodged a bullet and her trip went off uneventful and she returned home safely.

it is during these kind of times that we realize how much we love our families and friends. i learned just how much during these trying two weeks.
