 thoughts of a normal day

9/11 will be a day i will never forget. it was the start of a normal day when i came into work and turned on my internet radio, which just happened to be a ny station, and started my usual day. all of the sudden i hear that a plane has hit one side of the twin towers. i quickly say something to one of my co-workers, as him and i are thinking that maybe the plane had some kind of navigational problem, i come back to my office then hearing that another plane had just hit the other side. at that point all this commotion had arose, everyone had heard in the office, tv's, radio's, people on the internet, anything anyone could get their hands on to find out what happened. i quickly then get on the phone to call my friend that lives in the city to see if she's ok, of course i can't get a hold of her, my phone is on redial every 20 seconds trying to get in touch with her. when we found out that they had grounded all flights we then had people calling our guys that where out on travel to make sure everything was ok and make travel arrangements on how they where going to get back. then we hear about the pentagon being hit. at this time i went outside, since we work right next to rdu we usually hear planes go in and out of the airport, there was complete silence as i'm anxiously trying to get a hold of my friend. finally i hear a ring and another, then i hear "hello" from the other end and asked her if she was ok she said yes and that i seem to be the only one that was able to reach her. i had to explain everything that had happened after the first crash. she told me when everything happened everything in the city, phones, cable, cell phones were unreachable, even water was shut down. when i was finally able to reach her she was at a local grocery store standing in line trying to buy water for her and her dog. then i hear this lady next to her saying "i've been trying to reach my husband and can't get a hold of him do you think she could try for me?" to my friend asking me if i could. i said of course, i told my friend that i would call her back after i called her parents and this woman's husband. i tried and tried to get a hold of her husband but had no luck. i called back my friend and the woman's husband had just called. yet another relief.. after we hung up with each other and headed back into work, from that point on i just listened and thought, there was complete silence everywhere, the birds weren't even chirping. i guess this was definitely a day for this country to get a chance to come together and morn together. my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to all of the people who have lost their lives and their loved ones of 9/11/01.
