where i was on 9/11

i was mars hill, nc at college when i first heard of the attacks. i was finishing up a calculus test and as my roommate and i were walking to the snack bar, i saw a group of people standing around the television monitors in the lobby. i did not know what was going on at the time and when i looked up i stood in disbelief when i saw the second plane hit the tower. i went to my next class and the teacher was upset because her daughter was around the wtc at the time. she told us that we could opt to stay and just do some problems or if we felt upset we could leave. we chose to stay and talk about the situation with the rest of the class and try to comfort the teacher and students that had ties with anyone in the wtc. the school shut down the remainder of the classes. i was there on a baseball scholarship at the time and our coach thought the right thing to do would be to paint a huge usa on our outfield so we did. the next weekend we had a football game and everyone in the stands could see the usa in our outfield. therefore, we did a salute and a moment of silence while taking in what had happened. that is where i was when this terrible tragedy hit us.
