 the day it all happened

i'm from long island, ny. i had been living in cape carteret, nc since june 29, 2001 when september 11th happened. i was getting ready for work that morning and had good morning america on in my bedroom, listening to the news as i got ready. when i heard that there was a fire at the world trade center, i didn't think much of it. when i heard that a plane had crashed into one of the towers, i knew something was going on. just when i had absorbed all of that, the second plane hit. i knew then this was something deliberate. nothing prepared me for watching both towers come crashing down. i had been up there so many times. it truly was the crowning glory of the new york city skyline. i went on to work at jc penneys in jacksonville, nc. people were stopped in their cars everywhere. they were crying and hugging each other. as i got nearer to jax, military presence was already evident. that is where camp lejeune is. driving past it every day since 9/11 has been like driving through a de-militarized zone. the mall was empty that day and ended up closing early...nobody wanted to be out. i went home that afternoon and cried on my bed...the city i had come to love had been attacked and destroyed, but if you know anything about new yorkers, we bounce back. we are strong and we are survivors. all of us are no matter where we live. i did know some people who worked at the wtc. i also know some of ny's finest and bravest. my heart goes out to all who have suffered the horror of 9/11/01...the people of ny, the people at the pentagon, and the families of all the victims on all four planes (except for the terrorists). if osama bin laden is so fierce and strong, why wasn't his sorry behind on one of those planes?
