i'm a high school freshman. i didn't actually hear about it until both of the planes struck the world trade centers. i was sitting in my classroom, everything was normal(it was 1st period.) then our principal came on over the public address system(pa). we all thought it was just like sports recaps of last night soccer games which all of our teams won. but he alerted us to turn our telivisions to either channels 4, 5, 7, 13, or 37. these are all of our local news channels. ou teacher turned to channel 7, we were baffled majorly. then we heard the anchorman say "and all has turned to hell up in nyc." the picture flashed briefly through my sight. i started crying, really hard too. my e-mail pal's dad worked at the world trade center tower number two. he didn't make it i found oyt later on. at 9:11 a.m. our principal came over the pa system and said we were gonna cancel regular schedules and sit and listen to the news the entire day. i made my way to our school phone and called my mom, dad, and the elementary school where my brother, daniel, goes to school. the alerted him that i was okay so i wasn't too worried. me and my family are very close like that. at lunch me and 20 of my closest friends huddled onto one table that can only seat 14 usually and we cried together. it was the worst day of my life. then at about 1:50 our principal once again came on the pa system and we had a 5 minute moment of silence. this is also about the time when i got a note from kristyl, my pen pal saying her father's body was recovered, but he was not alive. i cried like i've never cried before. i e-mailed her when i got home and said i'd be on a plane headed to the airport as soon as the faa 'ed let me. it was a week. and sure enough i got there and consoled her and her family and when to her fathers' funeral. the week of september 11th scared, wrecked, ravaged, and dismantled my spirit. but being an american is about freedom, so i went on being normal, so the taliban couldn't tke that freedom away.
