oh my god, where is laura?

it was a regular day for me. i was rushing through my morning, getting my boys ready for school and trying to get my act together. as i recall, i drove up to my baby sitters house and she said a plane just hit the world trade center! i said "what" i thought to myself right away, where is laura? hoping that she called in sick that day. or that she was taking care of her new home. i thought that it would be o.k. i just figured if she was at work she would get out and come home. you see, laura is my brother in laws fiance. i called joe on his cell. i said oh my god, a plane just hit the tower., what floor is laura on? he was in shock, and said the 102nd floor. i was terrified. you see i was watching the whole thing on t.v. joe said i have to call her. he got through to her. laura said " joe i'm o.k. and i'm coming home. she told him to call her mom and let her know that she was o.k., joe said that he really couldn't hear her that well, and that it cut off., frantically, we all tried to call her. at this time, we were all alittle releaved, but still apprehensive about where she was and how she was getting out. laura was an extremely bright and very strong girl. she had alot of moxy. always taking care of everyone around her. we all just prayed. she never came home.

joe and laura had just bought a house 10 days prior to sept. 11. i was praying that she stayed home that day to get her house in order. she was so happy. we went to home depot that weekend before getting things for the house. she grew up in freeport, ny. as she was driving back from home depot, she proceeded to take me through her old neighborhood, passing the house she grew up in and recounting endless friends and where they would "hang out", as we passed the freeport library, she said "i worked there through high school and then some" i said "did you like that job lau" she replied "yeah, i worked in the childrens section" you see laura always loved children, she had a special way of making the children in her life feel extra special. i know she was planning on having a family real soon. she waited so long for her turn to have a family. now was supposed to be that time.

i wish that everyone could have known her. i know that sounds so cle'che, but it's true. she always made everyone even strangers feel so good. she was so beautiful. as a cousin said of laura " she was the closest thing to angellic as i have ever seen" i know laura is in a better place. but i sure do wish she could have had the family she so desired. she would have been the best mother ever. as she was the "best friend" i could have asked for.

i miss you laura,
